Life is a riddle; unfortunately the answer's are not written here.

With the ever-growing world of social media, more and more ways are being established to communicate. The most recent is Podcast.

Mike Dionne posted an article on the site about podcast. In his article titled Podcasting 101 — How Educators Can Use This New Technology” he says a podcast isa portmanteau of Apple’s “iPod” and “broadcasting”, is a method of publishing audio files to the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription, usually at no cost.”

As podcasting becomes more popular, so do sites and programs that help you produce them.

For example, Apple has come up with “Podcast Producer 2.” This program is designed to simplify the podcasting process and provide easier ways to edit your produce your podcast.

Podcast Producer 2 also takes care of the coding issues that many people face. Apple says that “at the heart of Podcast Producer is a powerful workflow engine that automates encoding, processing, and publishing.” Basically it is taking care of the problems people have when trying to do a podcast.

This program also allows you to “specify everything from import to notification, including details about which titles, transitions, and effects to use; what output format is used; where the podcast is published; and more.”

Pictured above is an example of what the podcast producer does for you in three easy steps. The first step is capturing, second is processing, and third is delivering.

Listed below are some of the benefits to podcasting according to

Reach a new audience
People like to consume media differently, so including another media option could help you reach new audience. Unlike video podcasts, audio podcasts allow a listener to multi-task, so they could end up listening to you on the way to work on while they browse the web.

Build a relationship with your listeners
Podcasts put a voice to your company/website and help you avoid being just another logo. Because podcasts are also opt-in, it means that only people who are interested in what you have to say will listen.

Highlight your authority
Giving away useful information can highlight your expertise in your field and might make people more likely to trust you in future. You could also record seminars and conferences so that people who couldn’t make the event can listen.

Increase advertising potential
If your podcast becomes popular, you might even be able to start selling advertising slots.

Respond to customer feedback.
You can use your podcast as a chance to address any customer concerns or feedback you’ve received.

As podcasts become more popular, these programs will continue to be produced and only get better. This is truly a remarkable time in the technology world.

  1. I like your post about podcasting. You provided good examples of how businessescan use podcats. I had never really listened to podcasts until recently. There is so much potential for businesses to advertise and create relationships with consumers. Many people listen to podcasts while they are at the gym or just walking around, therefore there are many interesting things that can be discussed during each podcast. However, I know with our podcast assignment we had many technical difficulties. So, if anyone decides to use podcasts as a means of advertising or anything else, they need to be sure they have good technology because it makes it hard to make them if you do not.

  2. Hey Jeff,
You gave some good points about what you should do to create a podcast. I thought that it was really cool that you listed some programs that are based on strictly producing podcasts. I had actually never heard of podcaster 2 that apple makes and I wish I would have when I made my podcast. This program seems like it’s easy to use. I also thought that your list of the benefits of podcasting were really insightful and would be beneficial to a business who is thinking about adding this technology to their way of communicating to an audience.

  3. I liked this post because it really gave the reader information about how they can work their audience. Before this class, i did not know anything about producing my own podcast or even why people would want to. This post gives really good reasons podcast are good ideas. I think you showing your readers ways to get started. I do mine using audacity and that’s a pretty easy way to do it as well…just in case you cant get a hold to apple’s way. It is important that people know that there is no cut and dry way to record a podcast, and they don’t have to be all serious and boring. The best ones are ones that the audience has a good time listening to. No one wants to listen to a commercial that sounds like the guy from the Clear Eyes commercial recorded it.

  4. […] because of an assignment in my social media pr class this semester. I also posted a blog on podcasting explaining about what it is and where it came […]
